not now isn’t nearly the same as never
I don’t see any need to be in a hurry
because I plan to make us last forever

It’s all too clear, I had it wrong
I dreamt a dream of you and me

In vain I planned and tried to share
a life our eyes would never see

I will not weep for foolish dreams
as nothing real was truly lost

All the same, it stings to watch
my heart’s desire cruelly tossed

Love goes not often as we planned
such is the way of mice and men

Though today the dream has died
I know one day I’ll dream again
